Plein Air Painting in Burgundy 2017
with Bruce Stebner
WHEN: September 5-13. Welcome dinner on September 5. Seven days of painting lessons/excursions and critiques September 6-12. The session concludes after breakfast on the 13th.
WHERE: At Atelier Faubourg in La Charité-sur-Loire, a charming medieval town on the Loire River in Burgundy. All commerce is at hand.
WHO: Painters of any level, interested in improving their painting skills. Class will be limited to 8 students.
INSTRUCTOR: Your teacher, Bruce Stebner, has an infectiously positive attitude. A lifelong artist, he began winning art awards as a child. Bruce began his professional art career as a studio potter before becoming a mural painter and, finally, an oil painter.
Bruce holds a BFA from Kent State University, has been a member of the Ohio Plein Air Society and is a member of the Akron Society of Artists, where he manages their member gallery. His paintings, once handled by various galleries across the United States, are now sold exclusively from his studio and online.
He held his first one-man-show in France in 2015 and has been a featured artist on Northeast Ohio television. As a teacher, Bruce has an uncanny ability to help students find the « next step » in their painting journey. Technical information, offered systematically each day, can be applied to each student’s level.
Beginners will be given basic tools for success. Intermediate students will receive information to improve their technique and rise to a new level. Advanced students seeking an opportunity to paint the French countryside may work as independently as they choose, while benefitting from daily critiques.
HOUSING: Private or shared rooms will be available in properties next to Workshops in France on Faubourg Island – La Charité sur Loire. All meals are provided: breakfast at your housing venue, lunch at the Atelier Faubourg and dinner at a local bistro. The goal is to create an intimate, international, artistic community which raises each artist to a new level of creativity and awareness.
TRANSPORTATION: Students are responsible for transportation to and from La Charité. However, a car is not necessary: La Charité has it’s own train station. Workshops in France will transport students to and from the train station as well as to any painting destinations beyond of La Charité in the course of the week. Possible excursions include Sancerre and the chateau building site of Guédelon.
Workshops in France or your instructor will gladly advise you regarding the best ways to travel.
